WEDNESDAY,
AUGUST 19:
Took
our time getting ready to leave; finally pulled out close to noon.
Even though the RV park itself was totally nondescript and
unappealing, with extremely narrow sites (first time I could
literally see what my neighbors were eating for breakfast!), it was
the perfect choice for us, because of such convenience to the ferry
and bus. 5-minute bike rides to each, if that! And always felt
very safe biking
or walking
home in the dark. And
the extremely helpful, informative staff.
A
beautiful drive up Hwy 101. Lots more
wine
country, which I didn't expect. Warm.
Then,
when we turned off at State Hwy 20 to travel west to Ft. Bragg, went
through lovely, thick redwood forests for most of the 30 miles.
Another road with lots of long grades, one at 10%, (though short),
and almost constant S-curves, it seemed.
But
the new transmission (combined with the upgrades we had done back
home) seemed to handle it with minimum stress. Bill is quite sure
that, had the old transmission not gone out back by Carmel, it would
surely have done it here.
And
who knows what kind of help we would have gotten here??
So
we're shown yet again how Providence rescued us.
Found
our campground here in Ft. Bragg easily. Quite a contrast to where
we just were – it's a beautiful
place,
with long wide sites, surrounded by vegetation and privacy. Very
overcast and cool when we got set up around 4:30.
We'll
be here for 6 nights.
