SATURDAY
& SUNDAY,
SEPT 5 & 6:
Drove
around
180
miles on
Saturday
to a tiny town in the Sierras. It was about the only place we found
which wasn't totally out of our way which could accommodate us for
the Labor Day weekend. A
relatively easy drive. Stopped in Susanville for lunch. And then
down Hwy 395 and over on state hwy 70 to Cromberg. Not the shortest
route, but the most RV-friendly.
Another
really lovely campground. In the pines and cedars, very nicely
spaced sites. And very helpful owners - helped us right in.
We
just took it easy for rest of Saturday afternoon after we arrived,
and all of Sunday. Got out the Jonathan chairs, read and snoozed
under the bright blue sky and the fresh pine mountain air.
We'll
drive about 100 miles tomorrow down to Truckee, just north of Lake
Tahoe. We've booked for 3 nights there; will use that as our base to
spend a couple of days rambling around Lake Tahoe. Was impossible to
find any campground right on the north or west side lake which could
accommodate a rig as large as ours, let alone one with hook-ups. And
we didn't want to drive all the way down to South Lake Tahoe – it's
too built up and commercial for us, plus the reviews I read on the
campgrounds there sounded like everything was very crowded. So
Truckee will do just fine. Plus, it's right there by I-80, which
we'll take east thru Nevada and part of Utah.
